A few of my co workers have heard about Anita so I thought I would post a picture of her on my blog. Just in case there was any doubt--we are in fact identical twins. (I'm on the right)

Angela 2.0
This is not related to library 2.0 at all... Oh well.

#23 summary
I'm glad we had an opportunity to do this at work. There were several things on this list I had wanted to explore, but I needed a push to do so.
I enjoyed the task that allowed us to play with mash-ups & online image generators. Helping a coworker create a Southpark character for her blog was rather entertaining. If only all of serials cataloging had Southpark characters...
Julie's SouthPark Character
This program had little impact on my learning goals. Technology is in my plan and this program allowed me a bit time to explore. Generally the the program was well constructed, but I think the activities take a bit longer for many people than advertised. If a similar program was offered, I would go through the exercises, it can't hurt!

# 21 Podcasts
I found a podcast of public domain audiobooks and added it to bloglines.
Audiobooks with Annie
I have used podcasts for various needs in the past. Podcasts are particularly helpful for language instruction. I have used podcasts to supplement Spanish and Portuguese classes.

#20 YouTube
I have decided to place a video I created for the LOCKSS program on my blog. This video supplements detailed installation instructions and demonstrates the process is not extremely complicated.
YouTube can be used for more than silly videos! I think this service has a great potential for teaching & learning.

Yahoo! Answers
I like that there is a suggestion feature on the search tool to correct misspelled words. It seems hard to get exactly what is searched, but there is an added bonus. Sometimes you learn something neat that is not exactly what you were looking for, but still worth it.
Perhaps this could be used during a reference questions if you run out of other options. I use this tool mainly as a form of entertainment...

#18 Online productivity
I created the text below in a document and used the publish tab to connect to my blog and post it directly. That feature is really easy to use.
I like to use keyboard short cuts and I usually find if frustrating when I can't use shortcuts in open source productivity software. But, I think its worth the effort to learn how to use these applications as effectively as Microsoft products.

#16 Wikis & libraries
I believe that technical services tried to have a wiki for the Unicorn upgrade last year. I checked the site a few times, and it never really was used. In my own department this idea also failed when trying to set up a wiki about the conser standard record. I think both of these applications were perfect, but we lacked a core of users to get this running.
In both cases the idea was to prevent numerous inquires about the same issue. The wiki would have provided a resource for self discovery before seeking assistance. Sharing questions and responses reduces duplication of effort, which should be a goal.
By the way...
Bloomingpedia was helpful when I moved to Bloomington last year.

#15 Web & Library 2.0
Do you expect the library to have a blog, a facebook page, a wiki, a (fill in the blank with any web 2.0 technology)?
I am 25 years old, which is an age where many people expect that I should know all about technology. Actually, I did not grow up with a computer, I even had typing classes on typewriters in high school. My first time in cyberspace was in 1998, which I might add was a big let down. Anyway-- I don't expect my library to have all of the things mentioned above, but maybe I'm too old to expect it. I wonder what the 18-20 crowd wants? It's strange to me that a 5-7 year difference in age could make such a difference in the realm of technology.
One aspect I love about Web 2.0/ Library 2.0 is the concept of interoperability. I want to be able to sit down anywhere and use all sorts of applications, data, and hardware to accomplish what I I need to do.

#14 Technorati
After searching Technorati for a while, I understand why the site is so popular for discovering blogs. Maybe one day when I am finished with grad school, I'll be able to read more blogs.
Does anyone know if it is possible to include the markup for a Technorati tag in a template so that you would only need to change the tag information?

#13 Del.icio.us
I heard about del.icio.us at a conference in 2006. Now I'm wondering why it took so long for me to use this tool.
I created an account a couple of weeks ago. It's wonderful! No more exporting and importing book marks from computers I use often.
Now I need to start using tags in addition to descriptions.

SLIS
This is the link to a search roll that I created from importing my SLIS booksmarks.
I wish I knew about this site earlier! I foresee using this tool next semester to help with research projects.

# 11 Library Thing
My Library Thing Catalog
I have always thought that Library Thing is a neat resource for some bookworms and very organized people. But it's not for me.
Three reasons why:
#1 My job is cataloging! Cataloging on my own time sounds insane, I'd rather be on my bicycle. I don't organize my books. *If* I arranged my books they would fall on the shelf based on frequency of use. The books used often within easy reach and the ones I need to remove from my collection would be on a unreachable shelf. This type of arrangement for a small collection does not need a catalog.
#2 I'm not a packrat, book collector, or even (gasp) a book lover. I love the information, not the means of storing the knowledge. Creating a catalog on a social networking site might place a bit of peer pressure on me not to weed my small collection. I hate clutter in my home, and I believe that unused books have a negative impact on the quality of life.
#3 I find "popularity" reviews, suggestion features (and the unsuggestion feature) on websites useless. I have never chosen to read a book based on a comment left on the internet by an anonymous person. If you look on Library Thing you will see reviews that consist of two or three word value judgments. There is just too much junk to sort, I only have time to stick to quality review sources.

#9 Finding feeds
I typically find blogs by word of mouth. I learned of a few of the blogs that I read often from conferences and library related talks. I frequent One big Library after learning of the blog at a recent conference.
Quick summary of suggested sites:
Topix.net: The search feature at this site allowed limits by zip code or city, which was helpful.
Syndic8.com The interface is a bit unappealing, but it's easy to get desired feeds.
Technorati
This resource provides the most nuanced searching features.
Feedster
Is unavailable at the moment.

#8 RSS
Link to my feeds at Bloglines
The feeds I use for work include:
OCLC alerts, UITS alerts, Microsoft Knowlegde base and other feeds.
The feeds that I find most helpful are for items that are updated infrequently. I like reading an electronic newsletter that is published every two months. RSS shows me the new headlines and I'm able to go to the site and read the entire issue, without the need to remember to check the site.

#4 7 and 1/2 Lifelong Learning Habits
Easiest- Habit 1: Begin with the end in mind
I find that goal setting & planning strategies to attain goals is an enjoyable activity.
Hardest-Habit 3: Viewing problems as challenges
I am aware that one can learn from problems/mistakes, but it is a very frustrating method of acquiring skills.
#3 Excel fun

I love the question below the OK button, "Was this information helpful?"
Although I am annoyed that my document was not saved, that little question always makes me laugh.
